Flood situation in the Czech Republic
Intensive rainfall in whole area of the Czech Republic cause rapid increase of river levels. During Saturday evening 1 June 2013 small rivers and after that also bigger rivers start to overflow. Flood situation in the Czech Republic No. 6
Intensive rainfall in whole area of the Czech Republic cause rapid increase of river levels. During Saturday evening 1 June 2013 small rivers and after that also bigger rivers start to overflow. Third level of flood activity was reached in Pilsen Region, South-Bohemian Region, Middle-Bohemian Region, Královéhradecký Region and Ústecký Region.
Immediately after origin of first emergencies fire-units were deployed, including units of Integrated Rescue System. From 8.00 on 2nd June 2013 there is announced central coordination of rescue and clean-up operation coordinated by MoI – General Directorate of Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic which fulfill and coordinates needs of stricken regions.
Czech government announced emergency state from 21.00 SEC on 2 June 2013 for 7 regions (South-Bohemian, Pilsen, Middle-Bohemian, Liberecky, Kralovehradecky, Ustecky, Prague) which is half area of the Czech Republic. Situation is coordinated by Minister of Interior and Central Crisis Staff.
Rescue flood operations are operated by Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic and fire-units. On the whole area of the Czech Republic 5032 emergencies were operated by fire units (professional and volunteer). There are 8 dead persons in a total as a result of floods.
All regions cope with disaster by their own means. Within central coordination of rescue and clean-up operations MoI – General Directorate of Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic centralize resources from non stricken regions and from Rescue Unit of FRS CR.
Situation in regions:
Middle-Bohemian Region
There are third levels of flood activity on the rivers of Vltava, Berounka, Labe and Sazava. Labe has culminated in Melnik in 22.00 yesteday. Water is rising in the area above Melník on the Cidlina River. During yesterday, the city of Melnik was evacuated. In Kolín, Sedlčany and Votice people is returning back to their homes.
Prague
Vltava River has culminated yesterday in the morning and the water is decreasing by now. But there is still third level of flood activity. FRS units are intervening and pumping with High Capacity pumps. Some of the underground stations has been opened today in the morning.
Southbohemian Region
Third level of flood activity is still on 16 stations and 9 rivers. State of emergency is announced for 13 regions (97 villages).
Currently the activities are focused on clean-up operations. In the area, there are problems with potable water supplies. Potable water distribution is organized in stricken areas.
Lužnice River is expected to rise a little bit today we expect the culmination today till midday. Nežárka River is also expected to rise a little bit today. Water levels on other rivers are decreasing.
Rescue operations are still continuing.
Pilsen Region
The third level of the flood activity is still announced in the region. Water level on Berounka River is decreasing in all areas. The water purification service is out of order. Citizens are supplied with potable water in tanks. Situation is stabilized in this area.
Královéhradecký Region
46 villages are affected by floods. Monitoring of situation, water pumping, disposal of dead animals, ensuring the supplies electric energy and potable water supplies and other activities are still running. Warning and information of citizens is still running.
Ústecký Region
10 637 people have been evacuated. The accommodation capacities are ensured in the capacities of the Czech Army in Litomerice.
The water level of Labe River is still rising. Culmination is expected today in the evening or tomorrow morning. Regional Crisis Staff organizes assistance to stricken villages and evacuated people.
Liberecký Region
There has not been any evacuation or rescuing of citizens and there is no more direct danger for people. The Integrated Rescue System is ready to be deployed in case of need. Regional Crisis Staff is monitoring situation and carry out preventive measures. Water levels of all rivers and streams are decreasing.
Deployed units from other regions:
- Water pumping units from Vysočina Region has finished their work in Middle-Bohemian region (Davle) and has returned home and is on standby, Water pump units of Pardubický Region and South-Moravian Region are on standby,
- Flood Rescue Module using Boats (WASAR) from Moravian-Silesian Region has finished work in Melník and currently is on standby in Kamenice,
- Ground forces and resources for evacuation from Rescue Unit of FRS CR is deployed in Middle-Bohemain Region, Ustecky Region, Kralovéhradecký Region, South-Bohemian Region and in Prague,
- Pyrotechnics from FRB of South-Bohemian Region, Olomoucký Region and Rescue Unit of FRS CR made demolition of pontoon on Vltava River, ground works and demolition of falled bridge in Kralovéhradecký Region.
- High capacity pumps MCS 1500 and MCS 400 are deployed in Prague and Middle-Bohemian Region.
p <>MoI – General Directorate of the Fire and Rescue Service of the Czech Republic is in direct contact with Crisis Staff of all stricken regions, Czech Hydro-Meteorological Authority and with Common Operation Centre of Ministry of Defence.
According to the Central Alerting Plan other resources from Czech Army and Czech Police were activated:
- Czech Army is ready provide assistance in Prague (50 soldiers in operation, 250 on standby),
- Ground brigade in Bechyne, Rescue company Rakovnik are ready to be deployed immediately after the request,
- 60 soldiers of Prague castle guard are ready to be deployed immediately after the request,
- Helicopters of Czech Police and Czech Army are prepared at the airport in Prague and Prerov,
- In Melnik three units of Water rescue service are deployed.
From 2 June 2013 Logistical base of FRS CR has given out following central supplies:
- 68.700 pcs sand bags and 37 pcs filling machines,
- 1290 pcs air mattresses and 41 pcs pumps,
- 1350 blankets and other supplies for evacuated personnel.
- 550 air dryers
The Czech Republic is currently able to cope with disaster and do not request any assistance from abroad. We thank for all offers from other countries which we are monitoring them in case of need.
