The Population Protection Institute as a part of the General Directorate of FRS CR regularly conducts chemical preparedness training events for the African continent
4. 2. 2022 (MF) - The Population Protection Institute participated in a “Virtual meeting of assistance and protection partner training centres in the Africa region” on 2 - 3 February 2022.
The Population Protection Institute participated in a “Virtual meeting of assistance and protection partner training centres in the Africa region” on 2 - 3 February 2022.
The event focused on helping the African continent, sharing knowledge and transferring experience. In two expert lectures, the Population Protection Institute experts clarified educational project for the East African Community and summarized a set of online trainings for several African regions that were organized by the Institute. The Institute confirmed its cooperation with the world top educational centres as the Swiss Training Center in Spiez (Federal Department of Defense, Federal Office for Civil Protection FOCP, Spiez Laboratory, Switzerland), the British Ministry of Defense (Counter Proliferation and Arms Control Center, Ministry of Defense, UK) etc. The Head of the OPCW’s Assistance and Protection Branch thanked the FRS CR for many activities organized within the frame of the “Programme to Strengthen Cooperation with Africa”.
Background
The Population Protection Institute is one of the longest cooperating organizations with the OPCW, the first training took place in the Czech Republic in 1999. To date, 35 training events have taken place at the Institute.
The Programme to Strengthen Cooperation with Africa on the Chemical Weapons Convention — known as the Africa Programme — focuses on the needs of the OPCW Member States on that continent. The Czech Republic implemented the most training events in Africa in the period 2016-2022.
